What are the criteria for new product development applicants?

A typical project is usually completed in nine to 18 months.

What is the target budget for a product development project?
Project budgets are targeted at $50,000-$100,000.

Is information kept confidential?
All information included in the application is kept confidential, whether or not the project is selected as an NPDC project.

Who can apply for projects under the communications program?
The NPDC communication program serves existing Oklahoma manufacturers.

How long does a communication project last?
Because the NPDC utilizes university courses, communication projects usually take place over the course of one semester which is approximately four months.

Who can apply for projects under the business and market analysis program?
The NPDC business and market analysis program serves existing Oklahoma manufacturers.

Is every company that applies accepted as an NPDC project?
To ensure both the goals of the manufacturer and the NPDC are preserved throughout the process, the project application may be accepted, returned for rework or rejected.

 What causes a project to be rejected?
A project might be rejected by the NPDC program if the product did not fall within the scope of OSU research capabilities, the company’s reasons for seeking out NPDC help do not mesh with the program, pursuing the product would result in patent infringement, no qualified faculty members are available to lead the R&D efforts, the manufacturer and OSU cannot come to agreement on intellectual property, etc.

 If not chosen as an NPDC project, can a company resubmit an application?
A project may be recommended for resubmission if the review team feels that the project and company have significant potential for the NPDC program, but the application or project is not at a level ready to proceed in the process at the time of submission.   This situation might occur, for example, if the application were not complete, the business was on shaky financial footing, the new product needed clearer specifications, etc.
